JUDGE ANDREW Y.S. CHENG REPORT CARD

Andrew Cheng was appointed to the Superior Court in September 2009 by former Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger. Judge Cheng earned his B.A. from Columbia University and his J.D. from Yale Law School in 1992. He began his legal career as a law clerk for the Federal District Court and then moved to private practice for the next two years.  In 1997 he joined the San Francisco Office of the City Attorney where he litigated against the tobacco industry.  In 2003 he joined the Office of the U.S, Attorney for the Northern District of California, becoming Deputy Chief of the Civil Division in 2006.

Survey Rating: Judge Cheng earned an average survey rating of 4.9 from trial attorneys who closely observe the courts. His highest rating was for knowledge of the law.  Ratings are on a scale of 1 to 7, with 7 the highest score.
